Children

Through the Read to SUCCEED program, MSU students tutor an at-risk child on a one-on-one basis, focusing on improving their student’s reading and writing skills. Tutors will be providing direct instruction to their student—this is not a homework help program! We provide training and constant support for our tutors and, prior to tutoring, all prospective tutors must attend our training sessions. These training sessions are held in Erickson Hall. Students will need to attend one of each session (I and II), both of which are offered at multiple times.

Interested students must come to our 347 Erickson Hall office prior to training to fill out the necessary paperwork and register. Office hours are Monday through Wednesday 9:30 to 2:30 pm and Thursdays from 9:30 to noon.

Students may tutor either for credit (TE 494) or as a volunteer. We are always in need of tutors. Tutoring takes place twice per week for an hour each meeting. All tutoring sites are off campus, and carpooling can be arranged. Our tutoring times are as follows:

Tutoring times vary by school location: Monday/Wednesday: 3:35 to 4:35 pm; Tuesday/Thursday: 3:35 to 4:35 or 6:30 to 7:30 pm; Wednesday/Friday: 7:50 to 8:40 am.
